The current turbulence in financial markets

⚠️ The financial markets are experiencing strong turbulence on Monday, August 5, which comes on top of sudden movements last week, both in equities and in bond assets.

❓We can cite several reasons for this, ranging from worse-than-expected macroeconomic figures to an increasingly tense geopolitical context or even to quarterly results publications deemed disappointing for large capitalizations in global indices.

But for the past two days, it is undoubtedly the collapse of the Japanese Nikkei index that has worried operators.

📉 The Japanese market has been experiencing a significant decline since the end of July more particularly in today's session, Monday 05/08/2024, where the Nikkei 225 closed down 12.40% at 31,458.42 points and the TOPIX was down 12.23% at 2,227.15 points.

This route is exacerbated by the rapid rise of the yen and monetary policy adjustments, likely leading to massive liquidations of carry trades and panic selling, particularly on the most popular strategies. Banks and insurance companies, as well as the industrial and technology sectors, are particularly affected.
